About the event
8:00am-8:55am ACUTE LOW BACK PAIN
· Concept 1: Risk Stratification is More Valuable Than Tissue Identification
o Clinicians can rarely identify a precise nociceptive tissue source in acute LBP. However, they can reliably identify risk factors for chronicity and poor prognosis. The practitioner who identifies psychosocial barriers, fear avoidance, passive coping, and recovery expectations will often have greater influence on long-term outcomes than the practitioner attempting to determine whether the pain originated from a disc, facet, SI joint, or muscle.
o Learning Objectives
§ Identify clinical variables associated with transition to persistent low back pain.
§ Utilize a risk-stratification approach to guide treatment intensity and patient education.
