About

Ankle sprains are among the most common musculoskeletal injuries encountered in active and general populations, yet they remain a leading cause of chronic ankle instability, recurrent injury, and prolonged disability when improperly managed. This 1-hour continuing education course provides doctors of chiropractic with a practical, evidence-based framework for the evaluation, clinical decision-making, and management of common ankle sprain presentations. Drawing from current literature, athletic training perspectives, and manual therapy principles, this course reviews key anatomical structures, injury classifications, red flag screening, and functional assessment strategies including the Ottawa Ankle Rules. Emphasis is placed on the appropriate integration of chiropractic manipulation, joint mobilization, early controlled loading, bracing, and progressive rehabilitation to optimize outcomes and reduce reinjury risk. Return-to-play considerations and interprofessional communication strategies are also discussed.
